Ed is the Founding Director of The Wesley Bell Ringers. He received The United Methodist Church, Rocky Mountain Conference AGEHR Area XI Honor award in 2006 for starting, directing and nurturing the Wesley Bell Ringers (WBR) at Christ Church. Wesley Bell Ringers were the first handbell choir in Utah and are the largest.
Ed is accomplished in organ and piano and arranges music. His music arrangments were a mainstay of Wesley Bell Ringer's music materials during years when there was little or no published hand bell scores.
Ed Duncan received a 2010 U.S. Presidential Teacher Recognitions Award. It was presented to him by U.S. Presidential Scholar, Uyen-Phuong Nguyen of Cottonwood High School. This prestigious award was added to the United States Presidential Scholars Program in 1983. The intent of the award is to reward good teachers for knowledge, skill and performance. The program itself was established by Executive Order of the President in 1964 to recognize and celebrate outstanding graduating seniors.
The hope is that the recipients of these awards will help to instill in following generations a commitment to excellence, high ideals and a devotion to service. When asked to reflect on teaching, Ed was quoted as saying, "After 40 years I still cannot hide my enthusiasm for teaching! When a former student stretches for a new goal I rejoice. When a student in my class has an Aha and says I get it! That's so cool, I can't help but cheer also."
