April 1, 2018 (All day) - April 8, 2018 (All day)

We are hosting families April 1 – 8, 2018 and need volunteers to help!

Family Promise – Salt Lake is a non-profit, interfaith, non-proselytizing, organization that provides Shelter, Case Management and Housing services to homeless families. However, more than just offering families a safe and supported environment away from the trauma of homelessness, Family Promise strives to facilitate lasting income and homelessness is a complex social and economic problem that affects Utahns from all walks of life.

According to the 2017 Point-in-Time count (PIT) in Utah, 65 percent of those experiencing homelessness are individuals and 35 percent are families or children. The negative impacts of homelessness on children are well documented. Nearly all aspects of life (including physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and behavioral) are affected by homelessness (Hart-Shegos 2). Children benefit from the early intervention of housing stability and supportive services .

Family Promise is a part of the solution to end homelessness. Did you know that CUMC has a dedicated space in our basement, “The Inn”, to host Family Promise Guests. There are 4 sleeping rooms, a kitchen/living room, showers, laundry facilities and two full bathrooms. We also work with three other local church congregations to host the guests on the three weeks following our hosting.

HOW CAN YOU HELP? We need volunteers to help set up the Inn,  prepare parts of meals, stay overnight with guests, have dinner and spend the evening with the guests, and help clean up the Inn when our hosting time is over.

PLEASE SIGN UP TO HELP TODAY! You can use the link below or stop by and see us at coffee hour in March.
