Fill the Pack

Fill the Pack was created by VOA’s former board member and volunteer Martha Crook, who got the idea of providing holiday backpacks for homeless youth during Christmas back in 2010. As a mother, she loved her vivacious and energetic teenager son, David, who unexpectedly passed away and which ultimately led Martha to Volunteers of America, Utah's Youth Resource Center. She came to the Center to donate David's clothes, and was touched by a young homeless youth that was ecstatic and grateful for the clothes that Martha had brought in. From there, Martha knew her son was still with her and was giving her the strength and the ability to move on. Fill the Pack is now an annual holiday drive that not only provides necessary and critical items for youth, but also promotes the spirit of giving for many individuals who make Fill the Pack a success each year!

We hope you will join us in changing lives this holiday season.  We are collecting new backpacks, basic need items, and fun holiday gifts. Let your holiday giving mean more to you and your family by providing necessary and critical items for these youth. For many of these youth it will be the only gift they will receive this winter, thank you for being a part of that.

Each pack will be filled with:

  • Notebooks
  • Hand Warmers
  • Reusable Water Bottle
  • New Socks
  • Pens & Pencils
  • New Men & Women’s Underwear
  • Food Gift Cards
  • Gloves
  • Earbuds

NOTE: Please DO NOT put these items inside a backpack.
Volunteers at the Youth Resource Center will sort the items and fill the packs the way they need to be filled.

You can leave your donations in a grocery bag (or similar) and drop them in the Homeless Youth Bin near the kitchen at Christ United Methodist Church. Coni Hampton will deliver them to the Youth Resource Center for you.  THANK YOU!
